An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) test creates clear images of organs, blood vessels and lymph nodes using a large magnet, radio waves and a computer. It does not use radiation. MRI may also be used to guide a biopsy procedure.
CT (also called computed tomography or a CAT scan) is a painless test that uses a series of X-rays and a computer to create 3-D images of internal organs, bones and blood vessels. CT scans offer more detail than X-rays for blood clots, cancer, heart disease and more.
