Our technology
We use the Sharp FM X-ray, which features a digital X-ray system with an elevating table and wall bucky including automatic exposure control for flexible clinical imaging and diagnosis.
What to expect during your X-ray
- Please bring your insurance card and photo ID.
- Eat and drink normally unless instructed differently when scheduling your exam.
- Avoid wearing clothing and accessories with metal. You may be asked to change into a gown.
- Prior to the exam, women should communicate with their technologist if they are pregnant or there is a possibility of being pregnant.
- An X-ray will last 5–10 minutes.
- A radiological technologist will position you over the digital recording plate.
- A lead apron is available to protect patients from radiation. A lead apron will be given to patients who have a guest in the X-ray room.
- Typically, the exam will consist of 2–4 images from different angles.
- Prisma Health radiologists are fellowship trained to read neuro, musculoskeletal, body, cardiothoracic and other subspecialty images. This means that you’ll be receiving care from one of our highly trained medical experts.
- X-Ray results are usually read by a radiologist within a few hours after the exam is complete.
- The results should be available to your ordering provider within 24–48 hours after the radiologist has read the exam. You can also find your results in MyChart.
